相信多數學英文的人在其學習經驗中，多半的時間都耗在背單字、片語，或是學習文法，卻很少有時間學習寫作文。所以即使是英文學習得不錯的人，往往寫作的技能還是很欠缺。一般人的英文寫作最常見的模式就是將中文直譯為英文，寫的是長篇大論，說的是頭頭是道，殊不知完全不符合英文寫作的邏輯。當然，下場就是一碰到考試非死（零分）即重傷（低分）。所以每年學測有高達上萬人作文零分也就不足為奇了。
