Technocrime and Criminological Theory

This proposed text paves the way for those who seek to tackle some of the most pertinent areas in technocrime; also known as cyber crime, computer crime, internet crime, and technosecurity. It addresses the underlying theory and provides foundational knowledge, discusses the conflicts, gaps, and other problems confronted by both scholars and practitioners. This book serves as an ideal primer for scholars seeking to begin studying technocrime or as a companion for graduate level courses in technocrime/deviance studies.

Kevin F. Steinmetz is an assistant professor in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Social Work at Kansas State University. His research interests include technocrime issues (hacking specifically), crime and criminal justice in popular culture, critical criminology, and inequality in criminal justice. His work has recently appeared in peer reviewed journals including the British Journal of Criminology, Criminal Justice Review, Journal of Criminal Justice Education, Deviant Behavior, and Surveillance & Society. He also was involved in the creation of the Journal of Qualitative Criminal Justice and Criminology and currently serves as its book review editor.

Matt R. Nobles is an associate professor in the College of Criminal Justice at Sam Houston State University. His research interests include violent and interpersonal crimes, GIS and spatial econometrics, criminological theory, and quantitative methods. His work has recently appeared in outlets including Justice Quarterly, the Journal of Quantitative Criminology, Criminal Justice & Behavior, Crime & Delinquency, Aggression & Violent Behavior, the Journal of Interpersonal Violence, the Journal of Criminal Justice, and the American Journal of Public Health.
