The inspiration for this story is Eyesa, a tree in the Henry Cowell State Park. The author tells the story through the eyes of a tree. She uses poems, prayers and magic to weave a tale of a 500 year lifetime of a single tree to help educate the reader about the scientific aspect of the redwood trees and their forest community.
