This textbook combines explanatory text, cases, and readings in order to introduce the field of ethics in society to undergraduate students, covering the key concepts, the background issues underlying contemporary moral problems, and critical reasoning for applying and evaluating moral theories. This third edition has been expanded to include new chapters on bioethical issues of genetic science, including cloning; same-sex marriage; and political violence (i.e. war, terrorism, and torture). The first seven chapters address foundational issues and specific schools of moral thought. The remaining chapters explore specific issue topics, including (in addition to those new topics mentioned above) abortion, euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide, capital punishment, sexual morality, environmental ethics, animal rights, and global economic justice.
