Golf

This title reveals the history of gold, from its invention in Scotland and patronage by Stuart monarchs, through its rising popularity in Victorian and Edwardian England, to the development of famous golf clubs, open championships and international competitions, with the battle between British and Americans for golfing supremacy in the twentieth century. We see the evolution of the golf ball and club from its early feather and wooden versions to the hi-tech golf equipment of today.

John Pearson is the editor of 'Through the Green', the magazine of the British Golf Collectors Society. The BGCS was founded in 1987 with the aim of promoting interest in the history of golf, as well as collecting items associated with its history. He is co-author and editor of three golf club histories - Cumbria Union, Writing a Golf Club History and Cecil Keitch, Champion Golfer - and writes on golf heritage for magazines in the USA, Europe and Australia. He is also Secretary to the trustees of the Women Golfers' Museum.
