The Battle for the Soul—A Comparative Analysis in an Age of Doubt

Do we all possess a soul? If so, what is it? Can it be defined? Crawford argues that it is important that we have a soul because if it is immortal then we can hope for life after death. But some religions insist that it is the resurrection of the body which is vital. How can the belief in an immortal soul and resurrection of the body be reconciled? Crawford attempts to answer this question in the context of six world religions and the science and technology of twenty-first century society.

Robert Crawford is a graduate of four universities and a Professor of Religion. He has been awarded fellowships from the University of London and the University of Cape Town and has taught at universities and colleges in England, the United States, Nigeria, South Africa, and Swaziland. In addition to writing eight books, he has contributed many articles to religious and theological journals. His book, The God/Man/World Triangle, was nominated for a John Templeton Award for Theology and the Natural Sciences.
