Reubin Askew became governor in 1970 during a wave of political development and legislative reform that Floridians still refer to as the Golden Age. Elected on a platform of tax reform, Askew led a group of politicians from both parties who sought judicial reform, desegregation, the establishment of the Sunshine Amendment, and other reforms. In this fast-paced narrative, author Dyckman, retired associate editor of the St. Petersburg Times, details the machinations of reform, constitution writing, and legislative work during the era, and describes Askew's relationships and alliances with other politicians in the state. He also analyzes how recent events in later decades have eroded the achievements of the Golden Age. The book includes b&w historical photos.
