The Survival of North Korea ─ Essays on Strategy, Economics and International Relations

In the face of widespread and continuing predictions of North Korean collapse, Kim (international finance, U. of Detroit Mercy), Roehrig (US Naval War College), and Seliger (book review editor of North Korean Review) believe that the country will likely continue to muddle along and play a strategic role in relations between Northeast Asia and the United States. Therefore, they suggest, it is important for the West to better understand the survival strategy of North Korea and develop an engagement policy that is in response to that reality rather than fantasies of collapse. They present 14 chapters that analyze North Korea's survival strategy, argue that dialogue with North Korea presents the only feasible means of resolving issues peacefully, and suggest means of building mutual confidence between the United States and North Korea.
