How Do You Know? brings together in one volume the selected writings of author, cultural commentator, broadcaster, and critic, Zia Sardar.
One of the United Kingdom's leading public intellectuals, Sardar most recently prsented a documentary for the BBC, "Battle for Islam." A prolific writer, his columns in the Observer and Independent and his articles for the New Statesman have a wide and loyal readership. He is the author of more than forty books. In 2002, his book Why Do People Hate America? was a U.S. bestseller, while his first volume of memoirs was published to great acclaim last year.
In the 1970s and 1980s, Sardar wrote a series of pathbreaking books on Islam, science, education, and the environment of sustainable development. These include Explorations in Islamic Science (1989) and Science Values and the Environment in Islam and the West (1982).
This book brings together a selection of Sardar's earliest writings, together with some of his latest work on cultural relations. Taking as key themes Islam, science, and cultural relations, the material here is drawn from a wide range of sources and provides the ideal way in for students to want to come to grips with his thought.
How Do You Know? is a companion volume to the previous Sardar reader, Islam, Postmodernism, and Ot her Futures (Pluto, 2003).

作者簡介
Ziauddin Sardar is Visiting Professor of Postcolonial Studies, Department of Arts Policy and Management at the City University, London. He is editor of Futures and co-editor of Third Text. His recent books include Postmodernism and the Other (1998), Islam, Postmodernism and Other Futures: A Ziauddin Sardar Reader (2003), the co-authored American Dream, Global Nightmare and What Do Muslims Believe? (2006).
