In this book, author Stephen Morris presents readers with an examination of the intersection of homosexuality and Byzantine Christianity. The author argues that, given the Church’s historically lax attitude toward condemning or punishing homosexual acts and relationships that it is possible for Byzantine Christianity to make accommodations for gay relationships and same-sex marriage. He examines the history of homosexuality within the monastic orders of the Church, compares the punishments for heterosexual sins with those for homosexual sins, and the Church leaders’ professed attitudes toward same-sex acts and relationships. Stephen Morris is a Yale trained independent scholar who has studied at St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Academy. He has written on patristic preaching and exegesis as well as medieval and Byzantine hagiography, and lives in New York City.
