Wes Clements was around ten years old in 1979. He and his father lived and worked on a farm in Caledonia and had risen with the sun that day, happy to see it after a long stretch of rainy weather. The pair was getting ready to go over their cornfields with the ol' combine tractor that morning, but their plans got delayed when they made a startling discovery. Just inside the borders of their cornfields, the part of their fields that backed up on a nearby freeway, was the body of a teenage girl face down. "We didn't know at first that it was a dead girl," Clements has said. "We thought it might be some kind of Halloween prank gone wrong, like a balloon that had floated away or something." In fact, it was the body of Tammy Jo Alexander, but Clements wouldn't know that until over 35 years. At the time, she was just the girl in the cornfield.
