The papers in this collection first appeared and at 2006 Oxford conference on Celtic art. The editors, Garrow (archaeology, University of Reading), Gosden (archaeology, Oxford) and Hill, of the British Museum, see this as only a part of a project on reintegrating Celtic art and archaeology. Articles address overcoming the problem that most Celtic decorative art is not found in settlements or gravesites but as part of buried hoards, thus making them difficult to study in context. Others consider the ways in which British objects reflect changes from continental patterns. Specific objects such as mirrors are weapons evaluated according to styles.
