Lerner (history, U. of Mississippi) argues that the emergence of the modern federal state in Switzerland and associated modern European ideas of political liberty, republicanism, and popular sovereignty must be seen as part of a single, if somewhat incoherent, revolutionary process that spanned from the middle of the 18th Century to the Revolutions of 1848. He details this process as it played out in the territories of Zurich, Schwyz, and the Pays de Vaud within the Swiss Confederation, looking at moments of contestation and the range of political innovations that were deployed. 作者簡介
Marc H. Lerner, Ph. D. (2003) in History, Columbia University, has been Assistant Professor of History at the University of Mississippi since 2005. His research interests are focused on revolutionary Europe in comparative perspective, republicanism, democracy and the transition to political modernity.
