The Roman Empire was one of the greatest empires of the ancient world. While considerable research has been undertaken on Roman frontiers, fortresses and forts, Roman camps are often overlooked in the study of the fortifications of the Roman army, and were the most basic form of accommodation, occupied for a very limited period of time. Although only occupied for a short period, a number of camp sites have survived the ravages of time to tell us something of the movements and activities of the Roman army in provinces around the empire.
作者簡介
Dr Rebecca H. Jones is an archaeologist at RCAHMS with a long-standing interest in the Roman army and Roman frontiers. She is a graduate of the Universities of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Glasgow, and has also worked for the University of Aberystwyth. Her PhD was on Roman camps in Scotland and she co-authored the volume on Roman Camps in Wales (with Dr J. L. Davies, University of Aberystwyth).
