善惡是人居於人世間不得不面對的永恆話題,關於這個話題卻從來沒有一個定論,向來是見仁見智。要成為一個大器之人,在善惡這個問題上,每個人都應該有自己的獨到見解,明辨善惡是智慧的表現。善惡之路何其漫漫,何其艱難!
先賢之道讓我們領略前人之智慧,聖人之書讓我們日進千里。有此捷徑,何當獨行?讓我們與之同行,共勉之!

前 言
巴爾塔沙.葛拉西安,1601年出生於西班牙。是十七世紀著名的思想家。青少年時期,他就開始修習哲學與文學。歷任軍中神父、告解神父、宣教師、教授及行政人員等職。他從未出任重要公職,但是常與政治人物交遊往來,這些人生經驗都成為他寫作思考的源泉。

1637年,其處女作《英雄》問世,旋即引起轟動。1640年討論領袖資質的
《政治家》出版。1643年,《詩之才藝》出版。1647年,其巔峰之作《智慧書》問世。因其筆鋒犀利、譏諷政治,被耶穌會警告,未獲批准出版。1651年,寓言小說《批評家》問世。為此,他被耶穌會解除了教席,放逐到一個鄉下小鎮,直至1658年終老於此。葛拉西安生活的年代正處於宗教改革浪潮之中,其一生與耶穌會有著千絲萬縷的關係,這兩個事件對葛拉西安思想有著重要的影響。

《智慧書》文風簡練辛辣,多暗含典故。葛拉西安的文風使得其與讀者的關係處於一種很微妙的關係之中。作者如擊劍般與讀者周旋進退,他的意圖多方巧飾,避免手中之牌一次攤盡,保持延宕懸疑,以隱曲幽微引人傾羨與尊敬。他在
文中寫到:「謹慎之人雖然自己十分清楚,卻總是說一半留一半」。葛拉西安的這種文風除了有審美上的追求,還有自我保護的考量。葛拉西安的文風顯示了其經驗之深厚,處事之周到圓滑,思想之獨到深刻。
