Advanced Polymer Concretes and Compounds

Polymers are being utilized in more and more ways, and a sufficient understanding of their performance in new environments is not always easily obtained. Polymer concretes (PC) appear to offer many possibilities for producing new materials with desired properties. There are many situations for which concrete-polymer materials prove to be the most appropriate materials for the intended application. Understanding of the nature of PC is necessary for the design of the most cost-effective PC composites and to produce materials with desired properties.

Advanced Polymer Concretes and Compounds explores the present state of the field, including applications, characteristics, durability, and environmental impact associated with polymer concretes. It focuses on two new polymers, namely, rubber concrete based on polybutadiene binder (RubCon) and silicate polymer concrete based on organo-silicate binder (OSPC). It examines their physical, mechanical, and technological properties, their behavior upon exposure to harsh environmental factors, and the issues of durability and reliability. It reflects the newest developments in the rapidly growing field of building materials engineering.
