The Routledge Companion to Literature and Food

The Routledge Companion to Literature and Food explores the relationship between food and literature in transnational contexts, serving as both an introduction and a guide to the field in terms of literary history, defining characteristics, and development. Balancing a comprehensive view of the long histories and preoccupations of literary food studies with attentiveness to recent developments and shifts, the volume illuminates the aesthetic, cultural, political, and intellectual diversity of the representation of food and eating in literature.

Lorna Piatti-Farnell is Associate Professor and Director of the Popular Culture Research Centre at Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand, and President of The Gothic Association of New Zealand and Australia. Her research interests lie at the intersection of food studies, cultural history, Gothic studies, and contemporary literature and film. Her publications to date include three monographs: Food and Culture in Contemporary American Fiction (Routledge, 2011), Beef: A Global History (2013), and The Vampire in Contemporary Popular Literature (Routledge, 2014). She has also edited three collections of essays: The Gothic and the Everyday: Living Gothic (2014), Fan Phenomena: The Lord of the Rings (2015), and New Directions in 21^st Century Gothic: The Gothic Compass (Routledge, 2015). Dr Piatti-Farnell is also currently writing a new monograph on food in horror narratives, entitled Consuming Gothic, to be published in 2016.
