此書是“文物版”圖書中的傳世名作。 一九六三年，文物出版社組織鑑定專家精選兩宋名畫六十幅，涉及山水、人物、花鳥、界畫等多種門類，采用當時盛行的銅版印制技術，活頁粘貼，卡紙襯托，正六開，豪華精裝，成為中國畫壇和收藏界臨摹與鑑賞宋代繪畫的精美寶典。一九七九年，此書重印后在社會上引起有識之士的極大關注，不久告罄。時過三十年，在保持原書內容與整體風格的前提下，采用當今先進的印刷技術和裝幀材料，文物出版社再度推出這本經典名著《兩宋名畫冊》，以饗中外讀者。
