China, Germany, Japan, Singapore, Switzerland, and the US were represented in the Project, which began in 1993 to help researchers and policymakers in Eastern and Western countries share views on educational structure and reform. In October 2001, participants met at the University of Pennsylvania to present their final conclusions. The seven papers report on such aspects as predictors of national differences in mathematics and science achievement of eighth-grade students, vocational training and education, determinants and directions of higher education reforms, and lessons on international collaborative education research learned during the Project.
