This work will include academic writings and literary works that explore the multifaceted connections between soccer and society including questions of class, gender, and nationalism.

Alon Raab is co-editor of "The Global Game: Writers on Soccer" (University of Nebraska Press, 2008) and a University of California, Davis, Religious Studies instructor whose classes include the Israeli-Palestinian Encounter Through Film and Literature and the History and Culture of Soccer. He has written journalistic and academic studies of the game and its culture. James Montague is an author, journalist and Middle Eastern football expert based in London. He currently writes for CNN.com, but his work has appeared in The Guardian, GQ, World Soccer and the New Statesman. His first book, When Friday Comes: Football in the War Zone, won him Best New Writer at the 2009 British Sports Book of the Year Awards.
