Sinicization and the Rise of China ─ Civilizational Processes Beyond East and West

This work has two companions--Civilizations in World Politics: Plural and Pluralist Perspectives (2010) and Anglo-America and Its Discontents: Civilization Identities Beyond West and East (2012). The trilogy arises from the research interests of Katzenstein (international studies, Cornell U.) pertaining to regional identities in world politics, his dissatisfaction with some of his earlier premises, and his venture into a civilizational level of analysis. Eight chapters (the first and the last by Katzenstein) discuss new thinking about China's territorial periphery, multiple traditions in China's rise, four diasporic lives, and Sinicization in comparative perspective, among other topics.
