Windows into the Medieval Mediterranean

Windows into the Medieval Mediterranean engages students in a new discourse of the Medieval Mediterranean world from 470 to 1350. It covers the inland regions, both east and west, that were intertwined with life around the Mediterranean littoral. The chapters provide both narrative history and primary sources and work together to answer the following questions. How did a region characterized by tremendous diversity unify around a single body of water, how did the environmental and human factors bring people together and divided them in conflict, what was the role of material goods in connecting people and how, by studying the medieval Mediterranean, can students broaden their understanding of the medieval world?

The book is accompanied by an extensive companion website including features for both students and instructors.
