Principles of Tidal Sedimentology

This book presents a comprehensive, contemporary review of tidal environments and deposits. Individual chapters, each written by world-class experts, cover the full spectrum of coastal, shallow-marine and even deep-marine settings where tidal action influences or controls sediment movement and deposition. Both siliciclastic and carbonate deposits are covered. Various chapters examine the dynamics of sediment transport by tides, and the morphodynamics of tidal systems. Richard A. Davis, Jr., is Distinguished Professor Emeritus, with 40 years of teaching experience, last 32 years at University of South Florida, USA. He has been visiting professor at many universities. He authored and edited 14 books (2 of them for Springer) and numerous publications. He is a member of Geological Society of America, the Society for Sedimentary Geology (SEPM), and American Shore and Beach Preservation Association. His major specialization is coastal geology, especially barrier islands systems, inlets, tidal environments and beaches.
