The book contains a fresh translation and interpretation of Clement's citations from the Basilideans and Valentinians and his criticism of their teachings on topics ranging from the creation of the world to the life of the Savior and the church. The author also shows how Clement borrows the ideas of his opponents in order to redefine them in the interests of Catholic orthodoxy.
