The paperscollected in this volume were presented at a conference convened in Podgorica,Montenegro in October 2014. Scholarsfrom a range of academic institutions and disciplines gathered to discuss thetopic “Islam, Religions and Pluralism in Europe” and its broad implications andchallenges from a range of perspectives, participating in what one participanttermed “interdisciplinary and intercultural discourses”. This theme allowed participants from diversenations and societies in Europe and even from outside of Europe to discuss contemporarysocial and political situations as well as current debates and legislationsurrounding pluralism, whether religious, social, or legal. Participants fromvarious fields including educationists, sociologists, political scientists,theologians, philosophers, and scholars of religious studies, includingspecialists in Islam, Christianity, and Judaism, discussed a range of topicsgermane to the conference theme. In the course of deliberations over threedays, a number of the presenters drew attentionto the distinction between plurality as a condition of social, ethnic, ?and religious diversity and pluralism as theembrace or advocacy of that condition.
