First published in 1936, this book contains an edition of the oldest extant manuscript in the series of records entitled Acts of Court of the Mercers' Company. The manuscript was compiled about the end of the first quarter of the sixteenth century and details the minutes of the meetings of the Mercers' Company as well as those of the Merchant Adventurers for the period 1453 to 1527. Although the early history of many medieval institutions and guilds remains uncertain, this volume importantly throws light on the affairs of the Mercers and the Merchant Adventurers over a period of great importance in the development of both bodies.
