A tender exploration of motherhood, memory and the silences that we choose to ignore.Miri is the exhausted mother of a screaming newborn and four-year-old Frances, who refuses to give up her shushu (pacifier). When her judgmental mother-in-law, Bella, arrives, she’s more of a burden than a help; criticising mealtimes, bedtimes, and of course, the ever-present shushu. When not dispensing unsolicited advice, Bella lounges in a Valium-induced haze on the sofa.Miri is overwhelmed—not just by Bella, but by the new roles assigned to her. Her identity is subsumed in the relentless rhythm of nursery runs, dinner prep and the demands of domesticity. All the while, Frances, ever watchful, gathers her lessons in silence. This is a tender, sharp, and quietly powerful story about the isolation of motherhood, and the pacifiers – both literal and metaphorical – we pass down through generations. From the creators of Alte Zachen

A trip through the city turns into a trip down memory lane, as an old Jewish woman and her grandson shop for ingredients for a Friday night meal.11-year-old Benji, and his grandma, Bubbe Rosa, are shopping for the ingredients for Friday night dinner. A poignant and ultimately uplifting picture book based on a true story of an escape from a convoy to Auschwitz.“Get through one day and then on to the next. One day at a time. One day after another.” Eugène Handschuh was a Jewish member of the Resistance in occupied Paris. After he was captured by the Nazis, he was placed on a convoy to Auschwitz. Against all the odds, with the help of strangers and fellow members of the Resistance, Eugène and his father escaped the convoy and survived – when so many others did not. Former Children's Laureate Michael Rosen was inspired to tell this story after discovering his father’s uncle and aunt were on the same convoy as Eugène, but never returned. With powerful illustrations from Benjamin Phillips, whose work has been shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal for Illustration, this sensitive true-story picture book reminds us of the best of people, in the worst of times.
