A grippingly personal analysis of J. K. Rowling's rise as an anti-trans activist, its media and pop cultural context, and trans resistance to the moral panic she has stoked. In J. K. Rowling and the Anti-Trans Panic, Gina Gwenffrewi weaves her own experience as a trans woman living in Edinburgh, Scotland, with analysis of political and pop cultural discourses and artifacts to deliver a trenchant study of how fellow Edinburgh resident J. K. Rowling's emergence as a major anti-trans campaigner and the years-long entrenchment of existing anti-trans forces have converged. Analyzing Rowling's output since 2020, a series of anti-trans events at the University of Edinburgh, the transphobic comedy of Ricky Gervais within the British media landscape, YouTube commentaries, and more, Gwenffrewi creates a potent taxonomy of the rhetorical devices and foundational assumptions of anti-trans discourse. While the 2020s UK has proved fertile ground for "gender-critical" feminism, she argues, it has al

出版日:2026/07/09 作者:Stephanie Andrea Allen  出版社:OHIO ST UNIV PR  裝訂:精裝
A long-overdue analysis of how Black lesbians have asserted their lived experience through creative practice, pushing back against heteropatriarchal systems that deny them visibility. "We Must Document Ourselves Now" examines the essential but oft-ignored importance of Black lesbian literature and film in queer literary and film histories, arguing that Black lesbian cultural texts reflect creators' lived experiences and resist the heteropatriarchal systems that deny Black lesbians visibility in popular culture. Stephanie Andrea Allen contends that these texts have three goals: to lay bare the experiences of Black lesbians in a raced, gendered, classed, and homophobic society; to challenge the notion that claiming Black lesbian identity is marginal or forbidden; and to take care of Black lesbians by bearing witness to their experiences through creative practice. Insisting that Black feminist creative practice is an integral form of self and community care, Allen weaves analysis of cultu

出版日:2026/04/27 作者:Edward Royston  出版社:OHIO ST UNIV PR  裝訂:精裝
The first systemic analysis of time travel as narrative device, Edward Royston's Transgressing Time argues that as a fictional conceit, time travel can most fruitfully be understood from a narratological perspective that sidesteps questions of its plausibility. In service of this goal, Royston identifies the precise narrative device, "anachronic metalepsis," that powers time travel. Existing at the confluence of narrative's power to manipulate temporality and fiction's power to transgress and displace across ontological boundaries, anachronic metalepsis demonstrates that the power of narrative itself is what enables time travel. Royston bolsters this concept through readings of classics such as Back to the Future and Octavia E. Butler's Kindred, contemporary works such as the video game Outer Wilds and Scott Alexander Howard's The Other Valley, and lesser-known works such as the nineteenth-century Spanish novel El Anacron鏕ete. These readings demonstrate how time travel functions acro
