A...B...Sea

A gentle story of learning to say goodbye to a loved oneOne day, a child finds a polar bear in their garden. But this is no ordinary polar bear; it can fit in the palm of the child's hand! As the days of the week go by from Monday to Sunday, the polar bear grows bigger and bigger. Soon, the child knows they must see the polar bear home safely. So off they sail, together, journeying across the sea in search of the polar bear's home. And just as the bear outgrows the boat--land ho! With exquisite skill and compassion, Richard Jones has crafted a profoundly moving story with tender illustrations and themes that will resonate with anyone who has loved and had to let go.

A moving picture book about friendship and finding the courage to brave a dark and stormy night by an award-winning author-illustrator.James lives in a little wooden house beside the sea. Every day he rides his bike around the island, saying hello to all his animal friends; the otters in their mirror-bright pool, the birds in the trees, the bears in their shadow-dark cave and the rabbits in their warm burrow.Every day is perfect. Perfect, that is, until one night a fierce storm arrives. James braves the wild night to check that his friends are safe, only to find that they have disappeared! Where could they be? James might just find that his friends are closer to home than he thinks.

For animal lovers and sensitive souls comes this quietly breathtaking story of a child whose compassion for wild creatures is returned to him during a fearful storm. Each morning when James leaves his small house by the sea, he cycles around the island and calls out to his friends. “Good morning!” he calls to the otters in their pool. “Good morning!” to the birds in the trees, the rabbits in their burrow, and the bears in their cave. Every day is wonderful, until one evening when ominous clouds start to paint the sky, and a fierce storm crashes in. The light glowing inside his house gives James comfort, but what about the animals? Should he go outside and make sure they’re safe? Beautifully layered illustrations follow the child in his little red coat as he searches the wild, windy night for his friends, to no avail—until an anxious return home rewards him with the fruits of his kindness. Stylized and atmospheric, Richard Jones’s exquisite art and lyrical text tell a heart-stirring tale
