Originally published in 1973, this is a selection of the educational writings of H. E. Armstrong, edited with a full introduction by W. H. Brock. Henry Armstrong (1848–1937) was a controversial and energetic publicist for reforms in science teaching and curricula. The author argues that new technologies have produced the fourth in a series of 'information revolutions' in the US, stretching back to the founding. Each of these, he argues, led to important structural changes in politics. This book is an intensive study of what was by far the most productive year in Baudelaire's literary career. Dov Ospovat's book, originally published in 1981, has become generally accepted as one of the most influential books about Darwin published in recent years. Ospovat examines the period of 1838–1859 in detail, and shows that Darwin's views changed quite radically from his initial belief that animals and plants were perfectly adapted to their environments, and that evolution only occurred when the environment changed, to believing that living things were not perfectly adapted, were in constant competition with each other and hence, were continually evolving. Frank McClean (1837–1904) was not only an astronomer and pioneer of objective prism spectrography, but also an accomplished and systematic collector of art, books and manuscripts.
