STS過去並沒有特別注意科技的性別議題， 所以更值得學習與反省FSS對這個姊妹領域STS的關切…… 女性主義研究所關切的議題十分廣泛，一般而言，它與STS (Science and Technology Studies) 集中於科技研究─—從人文社會幾個重要的角度來研究科技議題），是頗有距離的。但是，女性主義從七、八○年代開始，就有一支常被稱為女性主義科技研究的研究傳統。女性主義科技研究，本書統一簡稱FSS，相對於發展更早、網絡更大、且包含著一個學會與數個期刊的STS社群，FSS與STS的知性與社群關係為何，就是本書的一個大背景。 在此大背景之下，本書主要關注兩大問題：一是為何STS過去很少回應FSS的介入、或為何一些FSS者常感到STS人沒有認真對待FSS對STS的介入與質疑；二是如果STS反過來認真考慮FSS的成果，例如FSS者哈洛威兩本20世紀後期的重量級專著，STS的評估會是什麼？ 本書作者在第一章就簡略地以自己的觀點來回顧台灣的一些FSS者，從20世紀八○年代末開始到今天，所走過的路，所吸收、反芻與實踐進入台灣的歐美FSS。同時，這第一章的台灣說明，更在呼應對台灣「性別與科技」價值的關切、也積極呼應了本書所參與的「台灣人文社會的價值基礎計畫」的方向與努力。

在全球邁向5G網路的潮流底下，許多資訊（IT）相關業者也逐漸踏入通訊領域（CT），漸漸形成一個雲網融合的世代。而在ICT進一步整合的趨勢下，中國大陸三大互聯網企業（阿里巴巴、百度、騰訊科技）也進行相關5G策略布局。 自2019年10月5G商轉開始，累計至2021年4月，中國大陸三大電信商5G用戶數合計達4.2億人，5G基地台建設方面，三大電信商合計建成81.9萬座5G基地台，約占全球5G基地台數量約70%，中國大陸成為在5G發展上為領先國家，其5G發展現況具指標性意義。在5G資費上三大電信商皆取消了吃到飽服務。在應用服務上，電信商各自拉攏異業結盟，形成自有服務生態系，生態系中包含影音串流平台、串流音樂、雲端遊戲、閱讀平台業者，提供加值服務以吸引消費者。 日本5G發展方面，日本推出5G網路商用服務的時程相較於南韓晚了整整一年，2020年3月，日本三大運營商NTT DoCoMo、Softbank、KDDI相繼推出5G商用服務，自此日本正式進入5G時代；後起之秀Rakuten Mobile原訂於2020年6月啟用5G網路，最終則是在2020年9月底推出5G商用服務，因5G商用時程相對南韓、中國大陸、美國等國家更短，就當前5G發展來說，相關的部署應用仍處於探索和驗證的階段。 南韓在5G領域中堅持「全球首發」，總統文在寅也將5G定位為任內的「第3座里程碑」，要在起跑線使出全力衝刺，達到全球ICT領先的目標，南韓官方與民間合計投入超過30兆韓元發展「5G+戰略」。 根據南韓科學技術信息通信部（Master of Science in Information Technology, MSIT）發布的行動通訊服務統計資料，至2020年12月底，南韓5G用戶達到11,851,373人，占所有網路用戶約16.8％；個別業者占比部分，SK Telecom擁有超過547.6萬的5G用戶數，排名第一；其次是Korea Telecom擁有約361.7萬用戶，第三大業者LG U+則擁有約275萬用戶。三大營運商成功在2020年底前突破千萬5G用戶數目標，尤其月增用戶數在最後一季的表現由每月50餘萬戶增長至每月90萬戶以上。 本書以亞洲主要國家5G發展現況分析為主題，分別彙整中國大陸、日本、南韓之5G發展現況分析，內容涵蓋5G發展現況、主要電信商布局、發展趨勢，供5G產業相關從業者或機構以資參考。
