The purpose of this book is to explain both the historical context and current practices of land administration in Hong Kong. Although Hong Kong has an open and business-friendly environment, it is underpinned by a socialist leasehold land tenure system. The government is landlord to virtually all land and so it plays a pivotal role in the administration of this scarce, and therefore, valuable resource.As land administration is governed by private contract law rather than legislation, it is constantly evolving with the courts handing down significant decisions on a regular basis. In Hong Kong’s Last English Bishop, Philip L. Wickeri explores the life and times of John Gilbert Hindley Baker, who served as Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Hong Kong and Macao from 1966 to 1981. Baker lived through exciting times, as a missionary in wartime and revolutionary China, as a priest in America during the early years of the Cold War, and as a mission leader in the Church of England when churches in many parts of the world were becoming independent, before returning to Hong Kong where he was elected bishop. This book focuses on a seldom discussed topic despite its immeasurable impact on the health of the citizens and public health in Hong Kong—the development of outpatient medical services and their contributions. In the early 20th century, Chinese elite organized and operated a number of Chinese Public Dispensaries in Hong Kong and Kowloon, initially to reduce the prevalence of “dump bodies” on the streets during epidemics of smallpox or plague, and to determine the cause of death of these bodies. Later other services including domiciliary deliveries by trained midwives were added. The government founded similar clinics in the New Territories. After WWII, the government took over all the Chinese Public Dispensaries and operated them as general outpatient clinics. Over the years, more general clinics and special clinics were developed. In War and Revolution in South China, Edward Rhoads recounts his childhood and early teenage years during the Sino-Japanese War and the early postwar years. Rhoads came from a biracial family. His father was an American professor while his Chinese mother was a typist and stenographer. In the late 1930s and the 1940s, the Rhoads family lived through the turbulent years in southern China and Hong Kong. The book follows Rhoads’ childhood in Guangzhou, his family’s evacuation to Hong Kong, his father’s internment and repatriation to the United States, and his and his mother’s flight to Free China. He recalls his reunion with family members in northern Guangdong Province in 1943, their retreat to China’s wartime capital of Chongqing, where his father worked for the American government, and how they returned to Guangzhou after the war. 主編介紹 李帆 北京大學歷史學博士、北京師範大學歷史學博士後。現為北京師範大學歷史學院教授、博士生導師，兼任學院副院長，國務院學位委員會第七屆學科評議組（中國史組）成員、國家社科基金學科規劃評審委員等。主要從事中國近現代學術，思想史的研究與教學工作。代表性學術著作有：《劉師培與中西學術》、《章太炎、劉師培、梁啟超清學史著述之研究》、《古今中西交匯處的近代學術》、《清代理學史（中卷）》等，在海內外學術刊物上發表中、英、日文論文百餘篇。 黃兆強 畢業於香港浸會大學、香港新亞研究所及法國巴黎大學。負笈法國期間，博士論文導師則為國際漢學界泰斗謝和耐教授（J.
