Here is a collection of sixteen critical papers which inquire into literary problems found in works of eight British authors (Milton, Blake, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Shelley, Keats, Arnold, and Graham Greene) as well as four American authors (Emerson, Frost, O’Neill, and Hemingway). Each critical inquiry herein is imagined as a wind made up of the critic’s breath while an author’s work is imagined as an endurable rock on which the wind blows. Readers may get wind of the author or the critic and may know how the wind blows and where it lies, but they are expected not to expect any wind to change the rock noticeably. What we want is merely the readers’ attention and we hope their own winds will duly come to help keep the world in winds.

This book is an attempt to clarify the history of San On County — the broader Hong Kong area — centring on the troubled years of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. It is based on an in-depth study of the San On County Gazetteer, which allows for a detailed discussion of the role, attitudes, and personalities of the San On magistrates, who were the heads of the county administration during this period. Particular focus is given to Zhou Xiyao (magistrate 1640–1644) and Li Kecheng (magistrate 1670–1675). The study finds that they, and at least some of the other magistrates of this period, were genuinely concerned about the county and its people, and tried as best they could to provide good and effective government for them.

Memories are still vivid on the incident: on 29 January 2010, a five-storey building at 45J Ma Tau Wai Road, To Kwa Wan, Hong Kong collapsed, causing four deaths and two injuries. The tragedy has raised public concerns about the safety of many of Hong Kong's old and dilapidated buildings. Realising that the presence of ageing buildings lacking proper care and maintenance poses potential threats to residents and the public at large, since 2012, the Buildings Department has implemented the Mandatory Building Inspection Scheme (MBIS) to carry out inspection and rectification works for buildings aged 30 years or above. Seeking truth and due responsibility for the 228 Massacre has been the long-time goal for the 228 Massacre victims and their families. It is also the pursuit of the 228 Memorial Foundation since my assumption as the foundation chairman. After the 87th board meeting on September 2003, which approved the establishment of a “228 Massacre Truth Research Task Force,” a 7-member name-list was nominated by Administrator Lee Wang-Tai. The list included academic board members Chang Yan-Hsian, Huang Hsiu-Cheng, Hsueh Hua-Yuan and Chen Yi-Shen; representative of the victims and their families Jhong Yi-Ren and Lee Rong-Chang; and Administrator Lee Wang-Tai himself. Task force members then jointly suggested board member Chang Yan-Hsian to serve as the team’s convener. In a bid to avoid overlap with that of the 228 Massacre Research Report issued by the Executive Yuan on 1992, Administrator Lee proposed during the 88th board meeting to have the task force’s research report be named: Research Report

Qi-Deng Sheng was one of the most philosophically incisive creative writers on the Taiwan island in the 1960s and 70s, and one of the most controversial figures in local literary history. This book features five theme-based units on cross-disciplinary academic English skills, focusing on the needs of first-year undergraduate students. Each unit covers academic writing, reading, and speaking skills. The units progressively take students through the steps needed to complete three common academic assignments: the essay, report, and tutorial discussion.
