Quantum physics is believed to be the fundamental theory underlying our understanding of the physical universe. It presents an extension of the methods of analysis of proofs in pure logic to elementary axiomatic systems and to what is known as philosophical logic. The method is built up gradually, with examples drawn from theories of order, lattice theory and elementary geometry. Measurement is fundamental to all the sciences, the behavioural and social as well as the physical and in the latter its results provide our paradigms of 'objective fact'. But the basis and justification of measurement is not well understood and is often simply taken for granted.
