Summary This book is a written version of a lecture course that I have conducted over anumber of years at National Tsing Hua University on the subject of mathematical methods for physics In response to student requests, once and again, the main purpose of the book is devoted to motivate students to feel free to study mathematics independently The book is intended to provide advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate students in physical science with the most fundamental tools and important background which they will need in the advanced studies It contains a lot of physical examples appearing in many remarkable reference books, or bursting out in my research career All examples have been carried out step by step as clear as possible Through the numerous illustrations readers may become familiar with the basic outlook of mathematical methods for physics, recognize the skillful techniques in general, and enable to apply or to extend to advanced problems

Evolution of language has evolved at multiple levels—from changes in the cognitive processes by which language is acquired in the individual, to language change by diffusion of acquired linguistic features across populations of individuals, to the emergence of linguistic features over phylogenetic time scales. Evolution of language at each of these levels interacts with that at each other level. This volume is a collection of essays by noted researchers from diverse fields that deals with a broad spectrum of issues in the study of language evolution. The principle topics addressed here include: the genetic and cognitive bases for the phylogenetic emergence of language; several distinct accounts of the underlying cognitive processes by which children learn to acquire language; a critique of the methods employed by historical linguists in the last century; the modeling of language evolution using mathematical and computational techniques; discussions on the complexity of language.

This book includes two distinct parts: a reprint of the biography Stephen Smale: "The Mathematician Who Broke the Dimension Barrier" followed by new content which provides an update on Prof. Smale’s life and work to the present day. The book tells Prof. Smale’s life story, including his most important mathematical discoveries as well as his worldwide travels and other exciting adventures. It is suitable for readers interested in mathematics, mineralogy, and the esteemed career of Prof. Stephen Smale at City University of Hong Kong and beyond.

Prof. William S-Y. Wang, an eminent linguist, has made significant contributions to the field regarding lexical diffusion, experimental phonetic studies, language simulation and modeling, and aging and language. To celebrate his 90th birthday, colleagues and friends worldwide have contributed over 30 articles to a two-volume Festschrift. The English volume includes topics such as Chinese language evolution, the relationship between language and music, and the brain processes involved in language production. A number of research groups around the world have begun to study how the brain acquires and processes language, but we still know comparatively little about it. Many such groups work on very specific, often narrow, problems. This approach is certainly necessary, but a broad perspective can be helpful, if not essential, too. 迴歸分析是一種統計學上分析數據的方法，建立解釋變數與反應變數之間的關聯性。由於現實環境中，所獲得的資料並非都是明確的數值(crisp value)，有些資料本身是模糊的(fuzzy)，致使傳統的分析方法難以使用。為了處理這類型的資料，Zadeh學者在1965年提出模糊理論(Fuzzy set theory)，將不確定性表達於資料型態上，許多學者遂將迴歸分析方法擴展至模糊環境中，做更廣泛的應用。此外，直覺式模糊集合(Intuitionistic fuzzy sets, IFS)為模糊理論之延伸，在歸屬度函數外，加入非歸屬度函數來衡量，因此直覺式模糊集合能表達更多資訊，較貼近於現實環境。本研究根據直覺式模糊集合與模糊迴歸理論，建立直覺式模糊迴歸模型，並利用兩階段法進行求解。 本研究採用迴歸係數為明確值、解釋變數與反應變數為直覺式模糊數(Intuitionistic fuzzy number, IFN)的迴歸估計式。由於所求解的迴歸係數為明確數值，可以獲得解釋變數與反應變數之間的確切關係，提供決策者更明確的決策資訊。本研究在前置階段會先取得直覺式模糊資料。然後是求解階段，採用兩階段法，第一階段先對原始直覺式模糊資料做解模糊化(defuzzified)，轉換成一組明確資料，接著將該資料做傳統最小平方法，求得一組明確的迴歸係數估計值；第二階段，在最小化總誤差量的目標下，根據距離測度建立一個數學規劃(mathematical programming)模型，並使用Arefi and Taheri學者在2015年所提出之範例，在反應變數觀察值與估計值差距最小的目標下，求解直覺式模糊調整變數(Intuitionistic fuzzy adjustment variable)，以減少模糊估計誤差。模式建構完成後，進行誤差值的分析評估，相較於舊有文獻之方法，本研究模型的誤差衡量指標有更理想的表現；而在模型的穩健度上，本研究之模式透過交叉驗證(cross-validation)後所得的結果，可以驗證明此方法之合理性。

最有利標 (Most Advantageous Tendering, MAT) 決標之精神係 參酌先進國家之作法及世界貿易組織(WTO)政府採購協定，讓 政府各機關確實能依招標文件所規定之評審標準作綜合評選， 以擇定功能佳、條件好之最佳決標對象，把預算用得最有價 值，並避免廠商惡性低價搶標。 隨著國內所涉及的各類標案 種類繁多且日趨複雜，如何根據標案的特性，應用多準則決策 方法(Multiple Criteria Decision Making Method, MCD之M)適用 準則形式、假設條件及適用範圍，構建符合政府各機關需求的 選商機制，已經是各機關及學界多年來關心的課題。 本研究的目的在結合機關內現行之作法，提出一套真正符合法 規精神且可適用於不同標案特性需求之最有利標決策模式。首 先透過相關文獻蒐集與機關標案專業人士深入訪談，彙整出最 有利標7大構面及其關鍵影響之22個準則，接著運用詮釋結構 模式(Interpretive Structural Modeling, ISM)來判別構面與構面 之間及準則與準則之間的相依關係，最後結合ANP、模糊分析 網路程序法(FANP)與優先向量法(Priority Vector)找出最有利標 之評選架構最適權重，並進行標案企劃書實證研究。
