The first of its kind, this book presents a comprehensive collection of leading patent cases from nine major Asian jurisdictions which are analyzed by eminent scholars and legal practitioners from Asia, Germany, and the United States. It contains thirty case reports covering six topics which best reflect the current trends in Asia in patent law, namely specialized IP court (or division), compulsory licensing, the intersection between patent law and competition law, injunction, damages, and choice of jurisdiction and law in cross-border patent litigation. Each case report explores a landmark case by deconstructing the legal background and the legal reasoning of the decisions, and then discussing the commercial and/or industrial ramifications. This dissertation decomposes labor supply into three margins step by step and studies the relative effects of two adverse labor market institutes on labor supply. Labor supply in Europe declined about 30% relative to the US over the past 3 decades. The decline in labor supply comes from both hours worked per worker and employment. Some studies attributed the declining hours worked to higher labor taxes, while other studies accredited high unemployment rates in Europe to generous non-employment benefits. Fang and Rogerson (2009) is the only exception which incorporates two margins of labor supply. Fang and Rogerson (2009) embedded working hours into Pissarides matching model and found that higher labor taxes decrease both hours per worker and employment. The first essay of this dissertation starts from Fang and Rogerson (2009) to compares the relative effects of increases in labor taxes and non-employment benefits on hours per worker and employment and quantifies them.

Before 2000, roughly 96% of China’s energy demands were met domestically. Since 2001, however, this position of near self-reliance has changed. This study examined the relationship between ethical leadership and multidimensional organizational citizenship behaviors (OCBs), specifically organization-targeted OCBs (OCBO) and individual-targeted OCBs (OCBI). In addition, the study examined the multiple mediating effects of selfefficacy, respect, and leader-member exchange (LMX) on the relationship between ethical leadership and OCBO, as well as the relationship between ethical leadership and OCBI. Through the application of a hierarchical linear model, an analysis of the results from 656 dyadic supervisor- subordinate data from 145 business units in Taiwan showed that both respect and LMX significantly mediated the ethical leadership-OCBO and -OCBI relationships. The implications of these results for theory and practice and directions for future research are also discussed.

Taiwan’s Economic Security Since the 21st century, China’s rise has become a fact, and People’s Liberation Army has developed rather quickly. Thusso-called China’s military rise has become the most challenging phenomenon in world politics. Regarding to its army building and readiness many studies have shown that the People’s Liberation Army, in 2020, will form a complete (anti-access/area denial) capabilities, capable enough to turn China into a great military power in Asia-Pacific. It will have an impact on the Asia-Pacific regional stability, the cross-strait military balance, and under Untied States re-balance strategy. Under China’s military threat, Taiwan must be innovative in terms of strategic thinking and concept.

Candlestick technical analysis is an old trading technique that tracks the short-term price movements by employing the relationship between open, high, low, and close prices. The purpose of this thesis is to examine the predictive power of candlestick trading strategies by using the Taiwan 151 component stocks daily data for the period from 2 January 1992 to 31 December 2009. The main contribution of this thesis is using a fourprice- level approach to categorize the single-line patterns constructed by candlestick charting in a systematical manner. The approach adopted in this thesis permits us to release for the limitation of recognition in a manner not previously possible. Moreover, we not only consider transaction costs and risk but also mitigate data-snooping problems conscientiously by several appropriate methods, including the bootstrap methodology and sub-sample and out-of-sample tests.
