Nigerian-born Fakinlede is a Yoruba currently working as a research chemist in the U.S. His dictionary is intended for Yoruba scholars, students, and educators writing in Yoruba; for Yoruba students studying English; and as an introduction to Yoruba for non-Yoruba speakers with a fair degree of skill in English. Featuring both a Yoruba-English and an English-Yoruba dictionary, the text contains 26,000-plus dictionary entries, including idiomatic expressions. Also included are explanations of the Yoruba alphabet and tonal system; a Yoruba grammar section covering parts of speech and sentence structure; a list of Yoruba and English word roots, prefixes, and suffixes; and an appendix of scientific measurements and basic mathematical terminology.
