商品簡介
In one of several books exploring what can be called the Gnostic undercurrents of Western civilization, McIntosh (esotericism, U. of Exeter, England) looks at the revival of Rosicrucianism during the era of the Enlightenment, focusing mainly on the German-speaking realms. He reexamines the characterization of the movement by historians as the Counter-Enlightenment, and discusses the role played by the Rosicrucian revival in culture, politics, religion, and science. The study began as his 1989 doctoral dissertation at Oxford University, The Rosicrucian Revival and the German Counter-Enlightenment. Brill published it under the current title in 1992 as a volume in its series on intellectual history. Annotation c2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
