Much of the scholarly literature on corruption rather unquestioningly accepts the definitions and issues as framed by the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. These 12 anthropological essays examining corruption as concept and phenomenon collectively serve to question these assumptions and to move study of the topic beyond the so-called developing world, which is typically seen as the prime location of corruption. The papers have been organized by editor Haller (anthropology, U. of Texas at Austin) into sections dealing with corruption in "transition" countries, considering questions of the relationship between corruption and institutions, and discussing corruption as a type of narrative and symbolic system. 作者簡介
Dieter Haller is Associate Professor of Anthropology in the Department of Germanic Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. His focus is on political anthropology, borderland studies, gender, and the Mediterranean. Cris Shore is Professor of Anthropology at the University of Auckland. He is author of Building Europe: The Cultural Politics of European Integration (Routledge) and co-editor of Anthropology and Cultural Studies (Pluto Press).
