Capturing Identity: Quantitative and Qualitative Methods

Watzlawik (Technical U. of Braunschweig, Germany) and Born (Otto-von-Guericke-U. Magdeburg, Germany) present 13 papers from a November 2005 international conference on "Identity Development: Toward an Integration of Quantitative and Qualitative Methods." The papers present specific quantitative and qualitative methodologies for measuring and understanding ego identity development in human beings, including the Identity Status Interview, a longitudinal qualitative approach for measuring identity in adolescents in Germany, identification of construction processes in adolescent's life stories, analysis of the "Voice of Self" via interview transcripts, variable- centered and person centered analyses of identity development in college students, and a German version of the modified Dutch Utrecht- Groningen Identity Scales II for adolescents.
