Integrating Service-Learning into the University Classroom

Bryant, who works in research, consulting, and innovation and formerly taught communication at Indiana U., Schonemann (service learning, Indiana U. Bloomington), and Karpa, an instructional consultant, compile 11 chapters that detail how to integrate service-learning into the university classroom. Chapters are adapted from portfolios by instructors of courses in different disciplines, and explain how to design, teach, and evaluate a course, with information on course description, goals, materials and assignments, what works and doesn't, student feedback, and the value of the course to students, departments, community partners, and instructors. Courses focus on the development of civic engagement; the use of service-learning as an example of the disciplinary focus; or client-centered courses to demonstrate professional service and conduct.
