Governing Metropolitan Regions in 21st Century

Edited by Phares (economics and public policy, U. of Missouri-St. Louis), this volume reviews how recent government/governance arrangements have developed 13 major metropolitan regions in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The authors review how the geographies of governing metropolitan regions have been decided and how the regions have resolved questions concerning the scope of coverage for service delivery. Phares also includes two overview chapters discussing metropolitan governance in the United States and Canada, one chapter on Mexico's two largest metro areas, and two chapters discussing the formal government perspective and the informal governance perspective on metropolitan governing.
