商品簡介
This publication explores the tensions between the extraliterary (historical, social, and political) and the literary in Hebrew fiction from the late nineteenth century forward. The roots for this title came from Hasak-Lowy's (Hebrew language and literature, U. of Florida) dissertation, and focuses on the works by Agnon, Brenner, Abramovitz, and Yizar to establish how modern writers stimulated Jewish nationalism in nineteenth century Europe, and later refined its character in twentieth century Palestine. The author particularly focuses on Abramovitz's The Travels of Benjamin the Third; Brenner's mimetic poetics of fragmentation; Agnon's Only Yesterday; and Yizhar's early fiction.
