商品簡介

As the civil rights movement changed their world, many members of significantly affected communities learned, for the first time about their African American, Mexican American, and Asian American cohorts. Palmer, (American studies and women's studies, George Washington U.) examines summer camps near New York City and Los Angeles, a neighborhood rebuilt in Washington, DC, and a coalition in San Antonio that broke up a white monopoly in city government. She explains the Brotherhood Camps of 1957 to 1967 that became the brotherhood camps that included sisters from 1968 to 1974, the building of Neighbors, Inc., in Washington, DC, into a powerful association, and the transition from white Anglo benevolence to true multicultural collaboration in San Antonio from the late 1940s to 1983. Each study is meant to serve as a model for multiracial activism and effective collaboration. Annotation c2008 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
