This volume of studies on the Pacific, most of which relate to the French presence and influence in the region, has been planned as a tribute to the invaluable role John Dunmore has had in advancing historical knowledge of the pacific and encouraging scholarly interest in this field. Born to English and French parents, John Dunmore grew up in France and Jersey. After a stint in banking John Dunmore emigrated to NZ in 1950 and pursued a distinguished career as an academic, publisher and writer.
The contributions by leading academics are from both a New Zealand and a French perspective and a number of the essays are written in French.
