商品簡介
Bibler (American literature, U. of Manchester, England) began his study looking for marginal, neglected, perhaps suppressed works of literature, but discovered what he needed instead was a new way of looking at very mainstream, very popular, and properly canonical works in order to recognize the subtle presents of deviant, different, and non-normative forms of gender and sexuality in the midst of everyday life. The representation of plantation culture has always pivoted on sex and race, he says, and he seeks to heighten the visibility of the queer side of the myth by examining a collection of literary texts that effectively refashion the plantation into a place where queer southerners appear to live, sometimes freely and openly, as central players in the story of the South.
