Essays offer background information for the study of Asian American literature and also suggest strategies and ideas for teaching a selection of well-known Asian American works. The reference focuses on 15 novels or book-length prose narratives and six works of drama. Each of the essays contains information about the work (such as its publication or production history), its popular and critical reception, a biographical sketch of the author, the work's historical context and major themes, critical issues, pedagogical topics, a list of comparative works, an assessment of resources, and a bibliography.
