DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT 2004

The 21 papers of this proceedings were presented at the Third International Conference on Design & Manufacture for Sustainable Development, held at Loughbourough U. in the UK in September 2004. The two keynote papers, by S. Walker (U. of Calgary, Alberta, Canada) and C. Sherwin (Forum for the Future, London, UK) address the theory of sustainability based on historically long-lived object design and NGOs as a stimulus for sustainable innovation and change. Other topics include an experimental design of engineering polymers as actuators to produce automatic disassembly of electronic products, supra-functional factors in sustainable products, extending product life, recyclable plastics, and a solar-powered bus case study.
