Vassilis Vassilikos was born on the island of Thasos in 1933. He is Greece's most acclaimed novelist. . He has published more than ninety books, including novels, short stories, essays, poetry, and plays. His most famous novel Z, has been translated into thirty-two languages. He lives in Athens and Paris. Karen Emmerich is praised for her translations of Greek contemporary authors Rhea Galanake and Margarita Karapanou, she was awarded fellowships by the Fulbright and Onassis foundations, and in 1999, the Elizabeth Constantinides Translation Prize by the Modern Greek Studies Association. She lives in Thessaloniki, Greece.
