King (cultural resources consultant) gives a strongly-worded and often terse assessment of environmental impact assessments in the United States as they relate to cultural and natural heritages. While there are laws intended to avoid or minimize damage or destruction to say, the old family farm, a particularly beautiful landscape, or a favorite fishing stream, those laws actually are, as he puts it, "a sham," easily waived by Congress and easily ignored. As a result, the author proposes changes to how environmental impact assessments and cultural resource management are conducted and how the related laws should be enforced. 作者簡介
Thomas F. King is one of the leading consultants in cultural resources management in the United States. He teaches dozens of workshops each year on this topic for SWCA Environmental Consultants and is author of many major books in the field including, Saving Places that Matter (2007), Cultural Resource Laws and Practice (2004) and Federal Planning and Historic Places (2000). Former staff member of the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, he has been in the heritage management business for four decades.
